Connect an MCP server

Discover the capabilities exposed by a compatible server.

What it does

MCP is the Model Context Protocol. A server can describe tools and resources, with capabilities and permissions that differ by server.

This release supports tool discovery on public HTTPS Streamable HTTP endpoints using protocol 2026-07-28. It does not execute tools, read MCP resources or authenticate to private MCP servers.

How to use it

  1. Open a Workspace and select + MCP.
  2. Enter a name and the server’s public HTTPS endpoint.
  3. Select Connect source. PatternLab requests the available tool descriptions.
  4. Open Sources to review the saved discovery response.

Example

A server might advertise a tool called search_orders. Discovery saves its name and description; it does not search orders or authorize an action.

What happens next

Tool descriptions remain attached to the Workspace. Reconnect to refresh discovery. Adding MCP does not replace the required business data and SOPs.
